Yutaro Keino

Yutaro Keino graduated from Waseda University, School of Humanities, Theatre and Film Arts, and holds a Master’s degree in directing from the National Polish Film School in Lodz, Poland. While in Tokyo, he met important filmmakers Pedro Costa, Wang Bing, and Sho Miyake. In Thy Kingdom by the Sea entered the New Asian Currents section at the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival 2019.

He received a grant from the Program for Upcoming Artists by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan, and studied filmmaking personally under Hungarian director Béla Tarr (2018). At Lodz Film School, he studied under the tutorship of Magnus von Horn. In 2022, “Yutaro Keino Program” was organized as part of Experimental Film Culture in Japan Vol. 4, and his films were shown in Tokyo. He was also selected for Talents Tokyo, a program for emerging Asian filmmakers organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. His 2023 film Good, Evil and the Sun entered the competition at L’Europe autour de l’Europe (FEAE) Festival in Paris.
